Artist Statement

My constant theme has been to facilitate self-expression and human relationships through communication. It is my hope that as we learn to express and accept the unique individual we can become a global community. I have learned and taught through the medium of art, music, movement, drama and language. My group work has included people with varying abilities from impaired to brilliant, with an age span from 2 to 100 years and with cultural diversity from around the world.

The process of creating and showing art is like dancing - tango, rock and roll, folk. It expresses a dynamic between one and the 'other'. The conjunction of opposites and the bringing together of techniques and mediums that don't seem to belong together intrigues me. The quick, mental digital process is complemented by the crafted, sensual work with encaustic or monoprints. Not hampering the process with too much technical expertise and fussy perfectionism I allow the work to remain in a state of flux until the image speaks to my feelings and my aesthetic eye. This yin-yang exercise yields insights into my own nature and my relationip to the world.
